Day 6, Tuesday 12 September
Soudan to Thorigné-d’Anjou
59k
Feeling good.
Over dinner last night we met two German geologists who gave us the rather disturbing news that, apparently, there’s already evidence of the next glacial period starting. They then explained that it’s still tens of thousands of years away, so no need to worry about it on this trip. Also told us lots of interesting stuff about volcanoes etc. The conversation ranged widely over rocks, Brexit, Plantagenet history etc. while eating cote de boeuf and drinking Loire wines. Brilliant evening.
Then, onwards this morning through la pays de la Loire in glorious sunshine. So far the route seems fine: country lanes, voie vertes, and canal tow paths. My Brooks leather saddle is being kind to my bum, and no other aches or pains. Got cramp badly last night so need to do some more stretching. Mentally I’m feeling really positive. I’m gonna do this trip.
I’ll try to upload a route map to the blog but it’s a bit fiddly on my tablet.
Picnic lunch again: bread, Paté de foie de volailles, salad. Perfect. Now reached our B&B on the banks of the river Mayenne, a tributary of the Loire. Supper beckons so here are a few of today’s pics:
Wow, what a serendipitous time you are having! Gx
